Indore to Pune bus falls in Narmada river, 13 dead

At least 13 people were killed and several others were injured when a bus carrying 40 passengers fell off the bridge in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district on Monday.

The Maharashtra roadways bus was going to Pune from Indore when the bus fell into the Narmada river after breaking the railing of the Khalghat Sanjay Setu Bridge in Dhar.

The officials also informed that the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has reached the site. The bus has been retrieved from the river amid heavy rainfall in the area and 15 people have been rescued.

MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan expresses grief: CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief over the incident and informed that the district administration is present at the accident site. “The bus has been removed. I am in constant touch with Khargone, Dhar district administration. Instructions have been given to make arrangements for proper treatment of the injured,” Chouhan said. Chouhan also called Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and apprised him on the current situation.

PM Modi expresses condolences: Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief over the incident. In a Twitter post, PM said: "The bus tragedy in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh is saddening. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. Rescue work is underway and and local authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected.”
