The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has filed draft charges against Bollywood actor Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty in the drugs procurement relating to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case.
Special public prosecutor Atul Sarpande had proposed to the court to charge Rhea and her brother for consumption of narcotic substances and also for procuring and payment of drugs for the deceased actor.
Rhea, along with her brother, was present in the court when NCB presented the charge sheet. The next hearing of the case will be on July 12.
A BRIEF RECAP OF THE CASE
Rhea was arrested along with her brother in September 2020 for allegedly consuming and procuring drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput. The federal agency framed the charges under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS).
She was arrested by the NCB on September 8, 2022. Rhea spent nearly a month in Jail before being granted bail on October 7, 2020.
HOW NCB ZEROED IN ON RHEA: Rhea was questioned for three days by the NCB in 2020. During the questioning, her WhatsApp chats involving drugs conversation with another person also surfaced.
In the WhatsApp chats dated January 2020, accessed by the India Today, it was found that Rhea, was discussing with her manager Shruti Modi that the late actor was on some medication. The chats indicated that Rhea was trying to get Sushant quit marijuana and take medications.
In the conversation, the actress was also seen confessing that she once took a drug called MDMA.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead on June 14, 2020 at his house in Bandra West, Mumbai.
