That dazzling ball lighting up Las Vegas in viral videos is MSG Sphere

The MSG sphere, which is a sphere-shaped music and entertainment arena at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, has been illuminated ahead of its official debut on Fourth of July. Here's all you need to know about this over-the-top building.

Las Vegas boasts of a vibrant and unforgettable nightlife; and this building, whose exosphere LED screen is the largest in the world, adds more glamour to the city. The 360-degree visuals on the exterior of this venue can be seen from miles away.

Ahead of Fourth of July, the sphere has been lit up with a flurry of red and black swirling lights with the message, "Hello World".

What

The MSG Sphere, which is also known as the The Sphere, is a state-of-the-art arena built for entertainment purposes. It is located just off the Las Vegas Strip and east of The Venetian Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. It claims to be a 'revolutionary venue' where you will get to experience and enjoy shows, concerts and events like never before.

  • It is built to host immersive shows, concerts, sporting and corporate events in Las Vegas. 
  • The groundbreaking ceremony for this 18,600 set auditorium was held in September 2018, and it is planned to officially open in September 2023. The construction began in 2019.
  • The owner of this Sphere is Sphere Entertainment Co, and this $2.3 billion project is a partnership between Madison Square Garden Company (MSG) and Las Vegas Sands Corporation.
  • It has the highest and largest resolution screen in the world.
  • Dimensions of the Sphere: The structure is 366 feet high and 516 feet wide at its broadest point. 

The Sphere will be officially opening with a bang, with the live performance by rock band U2, at a concert called U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere on September 29 this year.

Fourth of July debut

Before the venue is officially thrown open with the U2 concert in September 2023, the Sphere is set to dazzle Las Vegas on July 4. The Sphere will light up the Vegas sky. Although the details of what will be on display have not been revealed at the moment, it is touted to be a dynamic experience on an unparalleled scale.
