A video featuring Delhi Police personnel ruthlessly bashing up students during a rally in support of late Hyderabad Central University scholar Rohith Vemula is making rounds on social media. In the video, the cops can be clearly seen brutally thrashing a boy, and subsequently, a man in civilian dress, an alleged "BJP goon", joins the marauding police in beating the boy up. A few students, including two girls, who step in to defend the boy from the merciless assault by the cops, in turn get their hair pulled and are pushed to the ground by the police.

According to reports, the incident took place at Jhandewalan area in central Delhi. A group of students were marching towards the RSS headquarters in Delhi in a low key protest when they were accosted by the cops of Delhi Police, who started beating them ruthlessly. It's time DCP BS Bassi acts against the brutality in his own camp.

"We were stopped at the barricade and policemen asked us to use another road. Suddenly, a group of men appeared out of nowhere and started thrashing us mercilessly," a protestor told a TV channel. Following this heinous act, Delhi Commission of Women chief Swati Maliwal has said that they would issue a notice to Delhi Police.

The video and images have been uploaded on Facebook by a user named Rahul.
