Haven't those calling for Kanhaiya's head already lost theirs?

Great going indeed!

The "youth leader" who was caught red-handed putting up posters declaring a Rs 11 lakh-reward for anyone shooting JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar dead has been slapped with only one charge - defacing public property.

Though other charges, we are told, will follow, that's all he has got so far for unabashedly saying Kanhaiya deserved death for his utterances against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Another "leader", this time of a BJP affiliate, declared a Rs 5 lakh bounty for Kanhaiya's tongue and was promptly suspended from the party for six years.

But where's the logic?

On the one hand, we have Kanhaiya and other Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students being charged with sedition and spending time in jail, and on the other, we have these "nationalists" running riot.

If you and I were to even tweet about cutting off someone's tongue, we would be tracked down and hauled up by the law. We dare not even like tweets and Facebook posts for the fear of "reprisals".

And here you have people threatening to kill and maim and openly admitting that they are "proud Indians" roaming around free.

Then we have the yogis and the swamis of various hues who have taken it upon themselves to "safeguard and protect" India from the "Islamists", the "jihadis" and the "Jinnas" and nothing has been done to rein them in.

Kanahiya was arrested (now we know) after police took cognisance of a doctored video, and spent time in jail. He is on conditional bail, while two other JNU students, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, still await their fate for what they claim (and there is supposedly no evidence) they never said.

And, of course, the lawyer goons who created mayhem in the Patiala House Court complex still go about their business as if they have official sanction for what they did.

What's our nation coming to? Will this go on? For how long?

This is leading us more and more towards anarchy and no one's sure what he or she will face on the streets and who would be intolerant to what and when.

Anything can attract a reaction. And not just any reaction. We can lose our tongues, our heads, or both! On second thought, we already have!
