Modi must break silence on Niranjan Jyoti

Even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi has warned his party members from making derogatory remarks, the Opposition is right in demanding that he make a statement on Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti's hateful comments. Jyoti, who is a minister of state in Modi's government, has given only a partial apology and the PM cannot brush the matter under the carpet just be giving an internal directive to his government and party. He needs to make a public statement.

Farewell Phil Hughes

Australian batsman Phil Hughes, who died last week, couldn't have received a more fitting farewell. His funeral bore testimony to the fact that Hughes was deeply loved and admired by his team mates and the cricket fraternity. Nothing proved this more than Australian captain Michael Clarke's tearful eulogy to Hughes. "I know it is crazy but I expect any minute to take a call from him or to see his face pop around the corner...Is this what we call the spirit? If so, then his spirit is still with me. And I hope it never leaves," said an emotional Clarke.

Another child assaulted in Bangalore

An attendant of a private school in east Bangalore has been arrested for the alleged rape of a three-year-old child. This is only the latest in a spate of such incidents in the city. On November 26, the child's mother noticed that the child was not her usual self after she returned from school. Two days later, when the mother questioned the child, the child said she was hurt by the attender. This incident clearly shows that more needs to be done to ensure the safety of children in schools.

Keep your chin up, Gauahar

Model and reality TV star Gauahar Khan, who was slapped by a youth for wearing short dress while shooting a reality show, said on Tuesday that she was "hurt and shocked" by the attack but the incident has made her determined. "I assure you all that I am hurt but not out. I am shocked but more determined. I felt injured but stronger than ever," Gauahar said. We hope that Gauahar is able to put this incident behind her and go on with her career the same way as before.
