Modi suit auction: Will the Ganges wash Modi's gaffe away?

The monogrammed black suit, worn by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he met US President Barack Obama last month, is to be sold at a three-day auction along with 450 other gifts the PM received to raise money to clean the River Ganges.

The pinstriped wool suit, which carried his full name, Narendra Damodardas Modi, was made by Jade Blue tailors in Ahmedabad, the clothing chain that handles Modi's wardrobe and has reportedly copyrighted the Modi Brand of kurtas. The suit had generated a lot of buzz on the social networks. Fashion designers said the finesse with which Modi's name features in the fabric requires special technique, and that the fabric is most likely hand-woven.
