Dos and Don’ts if you’re stuck in traffic, thanks to TMC’s Martyr’s Day Rally

Do stay off Facebook: Yes it’s tempting to write that long rant on Facebook, as your taxi doesn’t move and you feel yourself slowly dissolving into a puddle of sweat and frustration. But don’t take it out on the Facebook status, blaming this rally. Professors have been arrested for far less.

Don’t take that AC bus. Or your car, or that Uber or Ola (even if you are lucky enough to actually get one): The buses will be crowded, your car will take five minutes from your narrow lane to the main road only to wait there indefinitely. Uber and Ola besides staying still will charge you for it too.

Do take the Metro, although it might not be any better: More than ten lakh people are expected to attend according to TMC. Though 10,000 buses matadors and SUVs have been hired to ferry people to the Esplandade not all will be taking surface transport.

Don’t crack that Sonar Kella joke: Mukul Roy, so visible in all July 21 rallies in the past will not attend this one. Let’s not rub salt into the former railway minister’s wounds by referring to the Ray film and ask "What are you doing (err drawing) Mukul?"

Do take that panoramic shot of Kolkata standstill: With Hindustan Motors shutting shop you might never get so many yellow Ambassador taxis in your Instagram feed again.
