Dunzo wants people to sit at home, chill, order their groceries online and have it delivered to their doorsteps within minutes. It has a separate service where you can send and receive parcels. However, it has a lot of competitors to beat. So, how can Dunzo ensure people, troops, to its platform only? – By using clever advertisements.
We don’t know whether these clever and sometimes not-so-clever ads are actually translating into business and profit for Dunzo; but nevertheless, it has people talking about their service and ads on social media.
Here are 5 thought-provoking ads of Dunzo we found people discussing on social media:
1. ADARSH BHARATIYA
This ad is definitely quite bold, and (also) politically loud for Dunzo. In a full-page ad on several major dailies and in various languages, Dunzo seems to have taken a sly dig at the Vedic medicine/herbal medicine/Ayurveda medicine-loving Indian.
While some people were amused, others were not.
2. QR CODE
For this, Dunzo is winning all the praise on social media. During the IPL showtime, Dunzo came out with an ad that started with a black-and-white TV glitch, which switches to the next screen that says, “Inconvenience is regretted. Convenience is not,” with a QR code in between.
For people watching IPL, it almost seems like their TV actually has some signal issue for a moment. Have you scanned the QR code yet?
3. THE DEAD REFRIGERATOR
The dead refrigerator ad is all over YouTube and TV nowadays. Personally, I think it is quite annoying and not practical. Twitterati also pointed out how the joke misses the mark – like who uses a refrigerator to only store groceries? Besides who wants to keep buying groceries every other moment rather than buying for, say, a week?
4. LOCALISATION
Dunzo is being praised for localising its ads as well. The Adarsh Bharatiya (Ideal Indian) ad is also printed in various languages and is one example.
5. STRANGERS BRINGING THINGS
Dunzo’s clever use of wordplay using the title of Stranger Things (whose latest season just dropped, sending the fandom into a frenzy) had even Zepto (Dunzo’s competitor) and MyGate (apartment security services app) replying to the ad.
