The girl wearing a golden dress put up a performance worthy of a gold medal at the Rio Olympics on Thursday (August 18), defeating Japanese opponent Nozumi Okuhara 21-19 and 21-10, and storming into the final of the ladies badminton singles.

Indeed, Indian badminton sensation PV Sindhu was in her elements, seeing off a spirited challenge from Okhuhara. What this does is that it ensures India's second medal at Rio. What's more, PV Sindhu's medal now will be no less than silver or gold.

Earlier she had upset world number two Wang Yihan of China in the badminton women’s singles quarter-finals.

Sindhu will now face world number one Carolina Marin in the final.

In the first game, Sindhu had raced to a lead of 11-6, before Okuhara fought back. But Sindhu held her nerve and took the first game 21-19.

Sindhu, however, raced away with the second game, winning it 21-10.

Sindhu is the second Indian woman athlete to have won a medal at the ongoing Olympics after Sakshi Malik gave India its first medal.

Here's how Sindhu's achievement was celebrated on Twitter:
