Mamata, focus on Bengal. Sourav, fix Bengal cricket

Delighted to hear that Sourav Ganguly will be the new president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Of all the cricketers I have met, Sourav is perhaps the best equipped to deal with the "ins" and "outs" of cricket administration. He could well be to Indian cricket what Michel Platini is to European football: a man of stature who also knows how to play the political game.

And yet what disappointed me was why Sourav had to get West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to effectively endorse his claim: why should the CM publicly enter the CAB battle? Aren't cricket boards meant to be "autonomous"?

Guess they never were, and never will be. Mamata should focus on governing West Bengal, Sourav on fixing Bengal cricket. All the best Dada! As he said in this interview to me, he never thought he would be Indian captain one day; who knows he could be the board president one day!
