Why it's tough to decide between Google Pixel and iPhone 7

For a long time now, Apple’s iPhone has ruled the ultra-premium phone market, in India as well as overseas. Google has now entered the phone market with its Pixel phones. So, the question is: Which is the better phone, without money being a factor?

The iPhone 7 is still a winner, though by a hair’s breadth. It offers better hardware features than the Pixel and is waterproof and comes in alluring designs.

It also has a set of great speakers, and is very fast, but then, so is the Pixel.

But the Pixel has some advantages in the core areas. It has a better camera and clicks more technically sound images, even though the iPhone 7 Plus is the better option with two cameras. But the zoom lens in the iPhone 7 Plus (the iPhone 7 doesn’t have it) is way more fun. The screen is better in the Pixel, although the iPhone 7’s is more technically accurate.

What puts Pixel ahead is its software. The Pixel and the Pixel XL are packed with technologies powered by artificial intelligence, putting the "smart" in smartphone.

The Google Assistant is great at recognising Indian accents and at connecting the dots, while Google Now fetches useful data for users. Unlike the earlier Android keyboards, which were quite bad at error corrections and ergonomics, this model’s keyboard is better than the iPhone’s.

But before you let Pixel walk away with the prize, pause for a moment for the iPhone’s trump card: The aftersales support.

The iPhone is supported for four years (the Pixel has been promised two years) with software updates. And the iPhone also provides hassle-free aftersales.

So, overall, this actually puts the iPhone 7 ahead. It’s a more dependable phone and better for most consumers.

But, if you are adventurous and are more comfortable with Android, go for the Pixel. It has all the goodness of Android, sans the warts.
