Why Amitabh Bachchan's Twitter account is making headlines these days

Amitabh Bachchan’s tryst with Twitter seems to have been jinxed as time and again he has made headlines with his social media presence alone. Though he had threatened to quit the microblogging platform after Twitter “reduced” the number of his followers, he seems to have changed his mind. Instead of quitting, he is spending a lot more time on the platform. One of India's superstars, with 32.9 million followers on Twitter, is definitely one of the biggest social media influencers of our time.

It is not surprising that his activities are being scrutinised, but what he is tweeting is indeed surprising.

1.

This tweet, though it may come across as abrupt, carries many answers. Questions were hovering on media and social media for the past couple of days after it came to the notice that the actor is following a number of Bigg Boss (the latest season and previous seasons) ex-participants, including Shilpa Shinde, Vikas Gupta, Hina Khan, Hiten Tejwani and Badgi Kalra etc. Not only that, he has started following the fan clubs of these contestants.

This triggered speculation that his account might have been hacked. And this tweet is supposed to be his reply. He must have been a fan of the reality show as he had hosted its third season in 2009.

It may be noted that he follows 1,457 people on Twitter.

2.

Amitabh Bachchan's Twitter timeline presents the case of a curious mix. It represents national pride as he celebrates India's victory in sports, and he is the face of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

It also represents his love for his fans as he retweets each of them. Then he also plays a family man, wishing his family members on their birthdays. Then there are the posters of his old films, which he keeps on tweeting. And then there is the one with "Badumba" and it comes quite frequently.

3.

This tweet came a day after the superstar threatened to quit the microblogging platform. It created such a stir on and off Twitter and he received so much support from his fans that he must have been impressed about the goodness of the world.

4.

The drastic reduction in the number of followers affected the superstar to a great extent. He must have received links from his fans which enable a user to keep a check on who all are unfollowing him. He retweeted all those links for the greater good of the Twitter universe.

5.

This was the one after which all hell broke loose on Twitter as it was a veiled — and decidedly empty — threat to Twitter for reducing the number of his followers. People started talking about it and actor Shah Rukh Khan was also dragged in the debate as he, apparently "the other fish", has now more followers than Amitabh Bachchan.
