Honeypreet Insaan, the alleged "adopted daughter" of self-proclaimed godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, has broken her silence after about a month of Ram Rahim's conviction in a rape case.

Honeypreet was booked for inciting violence in parts of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi after Ram Rahim was convicted for raping two women followers in 2002. In an exclusive interview to the India Today Group, Honeypreet has said that she will surrender later in the day.

Ram Rahim's "favourite angel" has denied allegations of instigating violence that was triggered after the conviction order was passed. "We went to the court believing that everything will be fine and we will be back in the evening. But the outcome was devastating and the verdict came against us. Our brain stopped working only. How can we conspire in such a situation," she told India Today Group.

She also raised objections to the way her relationship with Ram Rahim has been projected by the media. "I do not understand how someone can question the holy relationship of a father and daughter. My main concern was the way the media projected me. How can they malign a father and daughter's relationship. Can a father not keep his hands on his daughter? Can a daughter not love her father?" she said.

On being asked why she remained in hiding if she was innocent, Honeypreet said that the whole episode sent her into depression. "I went into depression. The girl who talked patriotism with her father went to jail. Then she was accused of treason. I did not know the legal process. After my father's departure, I became helpless. I will go to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. But it will take some time to handle my present mental state," she said.

She refuted charges saying that she was with Ram Rahim because she wanted to be a movie star. "I did not want to be an actor. I always wanted to stay behind the camera," she clarified.

Honeypreet, however, evaded questions on where she was hiding all these days. "Somehow I managed to reach Delhi. Now, I will go to the Punjab and Haryana High Court," is all she said. She said she will seek legal advice on whether she should surrender.

Honeypreet also denied that Ram Rahim had ever raped anyone. "On basis of one letter, how can anyone be held guilty? My father is innocent and his innocence will be proved. They have not considered the opinion of other women from the Dera," she said.
