Imagine a year where the humble Kadha has pretty much replaced all your fancy cocktails and aperitifs as the Drink of the Year. But 2020 is everything but normal no matter how many times we call it the 'new normal' and what not.

With the novel coronavirus wreaking havoc, and now the official flu season adding to our woes, a steaming hot cup of Kadha is just what the doctor ordered. From the PM's speeches on battling Covid to fancy eateries dressing it up as 'immunity drink', the Kadha has found new respect among people in 2020. And before long, the West is going to do to Kadha what it did to Haldi Doodh and Phenti Coffee (hello, Turmeric Latte and Dalgona).

Here's a quick Kadha recipe.

What you'll need:

Water - 2 cups

Ginger - 1 inch piece, peeled

Black Pepper - 7-8

Cloves - 5-6

Tulsi (Basil) leaves - 7-8

Cinnamon - 1 2-inch stick

Honey - 1 teaspoon

Lemon juice - 1/2 teaspoon

How to:

Bring the water to a boil.

Crush all the ingredients (except the Tulsi leaves and honey).

Add the Tulsi leaves and the crushed spices to the boiling water.

Let the mixture simmer on medium heat till it is reduced to half of what you started with.

Pour the drink into a glass, add the honey and a dash of lemon juice.

Your Kadha is ready. Drink it up while it is hot.

The Kadha is no vaccine for coronavirus, but it sure can help boost your immunity. Also, the Kadha is a remedy for that pesky cough and cold.
