When Sonu Nigam threatened Radhe Maa critics with a candle

To my fellow Indians... To the people who both do, and don't have the honesty to read a message in it's real context, interestingly... over the years, we have created another kind of rowdy mob of hooligans, a Twitter mob, that has no boundaries. That will mercilessly and pointlessly abuse and attack. You could be a senior actor, you could be someone's wife or mother. They don't care! But I put across my point in complete awareness of the consequences... I know that religious hypocrits go on the offensive when they are cornered philosophically. Rational point of views have always received brickbats initially before the wise of the society come together to empower it.

I have no clue who she (Radhe Maa) is... Never met her... But in my eyes, she's someone's wife, someone's daughter, and many others, call her a mother.

If she's proven guilty by the law, she'll be punished by the law. Before that, she's as respectable a citizen like you and me. And more so, since she's a woman in a country infamous for rapes and atrocities on women.

A country that worships Kaali maa, who's depicted in the least of clothes, (and I've been okay all my life with it, and so should everyone else be), has the galls to judge someone's spiritual quotient by his/her attire! A country that has a mela called Kumbh, where thousands of naked Naga sadhus roam around; a country that has Digambar Jains who don't wear anything, for religious reasons, has issues with a woman merely wearing a short dress in her personal time! How does the number and length of clothes on a person define his or her spiritual quotient?

We have issues with her dancing on songs, while most dancers like Hema Malini, portray the Durga ballet on stage regularly. So? Big deal. If her devotees have no issues with it, why should we be bothered? They see their god in a dancing guru, many others see their god in a Sai Baba Idol, or a Shiva idol! What then is the difference between terrorists who call everyone who don't follow Islam, Kafirs, and us? Where does religious freedom go?

What kind of country are we living in where we cannot discuss an issue without using foul language, circulating semi-pornographic images on WhatsApp and reducing someone's dignity to trash? If you can't stand by a woman just because you don't know her, get the candle that you are gonna carry on the next candle march after a rape, and shove it into your aggressively opinionistic hypocritical a**.

So what if Radhe Maa wore a skirt, don't babas go naked?

Way back in the 1970s, some bright sparks in Calcutta had come up with a jaw-dropping Saraswati idol. Instead of a customary veena, the goddess of learning and music was found holding a microphone. What’s more, she was wearing goggles.

They were probably a bit ahead of their time. But in the new millennium, new-age spirituality has arrived — perhaps ever since Baba Ramdev hypnotised the nation on television. So why do our collective jaws drop when Mamtamai Shri Radhe Guru Maa of Mumbai appears on Twitter as a study in pink —bereted, mini-skirted and booted?

After all, spiritual leaders are not lawyers. They can't be stopped from climbing those 20 stairs to the Supreme Court unless they don black robes — even in extreme summer? Anyway, what’s the problem in a country where men take off shirts at the drop of a hat? And sadhus go around stark naked? Read more here.
