Heavy rains lashed large parts of Tamil Nadu, bringing life to a standstill in many cities, including capital Chennai and neighbouring Pondicherry. In what is one of the worst monsoon spells to hit the state, key areas in the city have been inundated, leaving large number of locals stranded. Late Monday, the Army was pressed into rescue to step up relief operations, with the IMD announcing that Tamil Nadu will face worse weather conditions in the next few days.

Meanwhile, several Chennaiites have floated a Google document with a list of addresses offering their homes to stranded citizens for shelter.
