A 22-year-old boy from Uttarakhand's Kotdwar has received a job offer of Rs 2.05 crore from Uber. Rohit Negi is currently a second-year MTech student at IIT Guwahati. During the campus placement drive at IIT, he cleared 3 rounds conducted by Uber and received this huge offer. Negi will be working as a software engineer at Uber International after completing his post-graduation. His basic salary will be around Rs 96 lakh, and CTC Rs 2.05 crore.

Rohit, the son of a famer, is currently celebrating the job offer with his friends and family. Well, the Rs 2.05 crore package did not come his way easily. We spoke to Rohit to know the story behind his incredible achievement, and brb, we're just wrapping our head around it.

So, how did Rohit get here?

A few life lessons that our mothers and grandmothers have been giving us since childhood (which we usually ignored) turned real for Rohit. Here’s how:

1. GOOD GRADES ARE NOT EQUAL TO SUCCESS

Rohit was not a studious kid. He studied at a CBSE-affiliated public school and secured 7.6 CGPA in Class 10 and 82.4% in Class 12. Rohit dropped a year to prepare for JEE Advance, but couldn’t make it to IIT. After a year-long gap, he took admission in a private engineering college, GB Pant Engineering College in Ghurdauri, Uttarakhand. He failed to score well during his graduation as well.

2. IN 21ST CENTURY, COMPETITION IS REALLY HIGH

After back-to-back failures, Rohit struggled to get a job after graduation. He said, “Only WIPRO used to select students from our college at a package of Rs 3.5 lakh. There were so many students at the college and a limited number of offers.”

3. IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO (RE)START

Rohit refused to settle for a Rs 20,000-21,000 salary package after graduation. This decision changed his life.

He decided to work hard and prepare for GATE exams in 2020. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination conducted in India for undergraduate subjects in engineering and science to get admission into the Masters programme in engineering.

GATE is a highly competitive exam, for which lakhs of students appear every year.

“Around one lakh students appeared for GATE in 2020 and I secured 202 rank. This rank helped me get admission into IIT Guwahati for MTech,” Rohit told us.

4. ANT BHALA TOH SAB BHALA

Just like every other kid, Rohit’s parents were not so happy with his low grades during school and graduation. Little did they know what the future had in store for Rohit!

After getting an admission into IIT, Rohit continued studying and maintained a score of 8.44 CPA till today in his post-graduation.

During the campus placement drive at his college, he cracked the Uber test and personal interview, and received an offer of Rs 2.05 crore.

5. WORK HARD IN SILENCE, LET SUCCESS MAKE THE NOISE

If you look at Rohit’s background, you will realise he is a small-town boy who refused to settle for the ordinary.

“I come from a lower middle-class family. My family’s monthly expenses are less than Rs 10,000. My father is a farmer and mother is a homemaker. My sister is a nurse. A package of Rs 2.05 crore is an out-of-the-world feeling for my family. They are so happy,” he said.

Rohit is super-excited for his first job at Uber. Initially, he will working in India for a year. After completing one year, he will be working at an international Uber office. Other than coding, he is quite interested in cryptocurrency and cricket. The 22-year-old is quite a fitness enthusiast too and tries not to miss the gym.
