Believe it or not, drinking enough water each day can be the answer to dull skin, brittle nails, and even thinning hair!

Water is the main component of the human body. In fact, the body is made of somewhere between 55 to 78 per cent water, depending on body size. Every cell in your body needs water. Experts recommend drinking eight to 10 glasses of it each day to maintain good health.

The measure of water we consume regularly plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy body.  Adequate and regular water consumption has numerous medical benefits. In addition, it has no calories, fat, carbohydrates or sugar. Next time, if you feel fatigue and headache, it may be a sign of dehydration.

While in our busy schedule we often forget something as basic as this, with health coaching we could bring about sustainable lifestyle behaviour changes and one-on-one sessions with a coach can really facilitate better nutritional intake and improved quality of life.

Here are seven health benefits of drinking water:

1) Remain slimmer - Trying to shed weight? Avoid drinking water with your food, it slows down the metabolism. Also, wait for at least an hour after your meals to consume it. Replace calorie-filled beverages with water.

2) Water boosts energy - If you're feeling drained and depleted, have water to stimulate yourself. Dehydration makes you tired. The right amount of water will help your heart pump blood more effectively. Furthermore, water helps the blood transport oxygen and other essential nutrients to your cells.

3) Lower stress - About 70-80 per cent of your brain consists of water. If you are dehydrated, your body and your mind are stressed. If you're feeling thirsty, you're already a little dehydrated. To keep stress levels down, drink water throughout the day.

4) Build muscle tone - To sustain the right body weight, it is important that you have enough water. Drinking water lubricates joints and helps prevent muscle cramping. When you're well hydrated, you can exercise longer and your strength along with your muscle size increases.

5) Nourish your skin - Fine lines and wrinkles are deeper when your skin is dried up. Water is often referred to as “nature's own beauty cream”. Drinking water hydrates skin cells, making your face look younger. It also flushes out impurities and improves blood circulation, helping your skin glow.

6) Good digestion - Along with fibre, water is important for good digestion. It helps dissolve waste particles so that they pass smoothly through your digestive tract. If you're dehydrated, your body retains all the water, leaving your colon dry, leading to constipation.

7) Water reduces kidney stones - The rate of painful kidney stones is rising. One reason could be that people - including children - aren't drinking enough water. Drinking enough water dilutes the substances in your urine that form stones. So diminish the risk with a lot of water!
