23 TV series to look forward to in 2023

The new year has brought with it an assortment of releases - from fresh new series to the latest seasons of classics. Here is a rundown of the most anticipated television of 2023.

Spanning releases across streaming services - including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Apple TV+, HBO Max and Crunchyroll - here are this year’s most exciting TV titles:

1. You Season 4 (Netflix)

The fourth season of the Netflix original will be divided into two parts. This first part will follow Joe Goldberg across the pond in London, as he sets out to stalk the “true” love of his life, Marienne, in Paris — after realising he just can’t live without their steamy chemistry and soulful literary connection.

2. The Idol (HBO Max)

The Weeknd’s drama series will be centred on Jocelyn, an aspiring pop idol who, after having a nervous breakdown that causes her last tour to be cancelled, resolves to reclaim her title as the sexiest pop star in America and begins a complicated relationship with a self-help guru and the head of a contemporary cult. 

3. Shrinking (Apple TV+)

The Apple TV original starring Jason Segel will follow a therapist dealing with severe grief who begins to breach ethical barriers by telling his patients what he completely thinks, resulting in massive changes to his and their lives.

4. Iron Heart (Disney+ Hotstar)

The Marvel series follows Dominique Thorne as she reprises her role as Riri Williams or the titular Iron Heart from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).

5. Ahsoka (Disney+ Hotstar)

The Star Wars miniseries developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni with Rosario Dawson reprising her role as the titular character from The Mandalorian and the Clone Wars animated series.

6. Agatha: Coven of Chaos (Disney+ Hotstar)

The spinoff and sequel to WandaVision, the Marvel series will follow its titular character played by Kathryn Hahn, with its plot being kept strictly under wraps.

7. Gen V (Amazon Prime)

The Boys spinoff series will follow young-adult Supes tested in The Hunger Games-style challenges at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, run by Vought International.

8. Love and Death (HBO Max)

Elizabeth Olsen stars as the infamous Candy Montgomery in the American true-crime miniseries, Love & Death, based on the true story of Texan housewife Candy Montgomery brutal axe murder of her friend Betty Gore in 80s America. 

9. Made in Heaven Season 2 (Amazon Prime)

Set against the backdrop of improvident Indian weddings, the series will follow Tara and Karan as they run a wedding management agency while balancing their personal lives. 

10. Squid Game Season 2 (Netflix)

Following the death of the creator of the titular games in the first season, Gi-hun discovers that the competition is still going with new recruits and will do all he can to stop the game, just as he vows to do in those last moments.

11. Mirzapur Season 3 (Amazon Prime)

The crime thriller series starring Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal returns for its third and final season as enmities between Kaleen Bhaiya and Guddu intensify and a character from the past returns to haunt the rivalry.

12. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 (Crunchyroll)

The second season will first adapt Gojo’s Past Arc, specifically a mission involving Gojo and Geto escorting a Star Plasma Vessel to Tengen; followed by the infamous Shibuya Incident arc as well. 

13. The Marvelous Mrs Maisel Season 5 (Amazon Prime)

The fifth and final season of Rachel Brosnahan’s marvelous titular character will bring the standup comics story to a close, with plot details kept on the down low as of now.

14. Secret Invasion (Disney+ Hotstar)

Samuel L Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury along with Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, in the Marvel miniseries which will follow the Skrull infiltration on Earth.

15. True Detective: Night Country (HBO Max)

Set in Alaska during a period of 24-plus hours of night, the show will  feature the first all-women detective duo including Jodie Foster, as they investigate the disappearances of six men from the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in Ennis, Alaska.

16. Loki Season 2 (Disney+ Hotstar)

The second season of the Disney+ Marvel series will feature Tom Hiddleston and Sophia Di Martino reprising their roles as Loki’s as they battle for the soul of the TVA.

17. The Crown Season 6 (Netflix)

The sixth and final season of The Crown is expected to focus on the late 1990s and early 2000s, including the controversial circumstances surrounding Princess Diana’s death.

18. The Three-Body Problem (Netflix)

The upcoming science fiction television series based on the novel of the same name by Liu Cixin and follows Chinese physicist and nanomaterial researcher Wang Miao as he gets entangled in a vast conspiracy after state intelligence asks him to infiltrate a group known as The Frontiers of Science, which has been associated with a string of suicides among its members.

19. Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3 (Crunchyroll)

The fourth and final season of the Attack on Titan anime television series will center on Paradis and Marley finally putting an end to their conflict. The Rumbling has begun as a result of Eren, allowing him access to a massive army of Titans thanks to those lying dormant in Paradis to assault Marley. Mikasa’s Survey Corps has promised to stop him from eradicating the rival city.

20. Ted Lasso Season 3 (Apple TV+)

Fans are desperate to see how AFC Richmond gets on in the Premier League and if they can fare better this time around after earning promotion on a dramatic final day of the previous season. Their progress will likely be juxtaposed by the now antagonistic Nate who’s now part of the club’s main rivals West Ham.

21. The Mandalorian Season 3 (Disney+ Hotstar)

Pedro Pascal and his beloved green travel companion return as the titular Mandalorian and Grogu for the third installment of the Star Wars series as they travel to Mandalore so Din Djarin can redeem himself for his transgressions of removing his helmet.

22. Succession Season 4 (Disney+ Hotstar)

The multiple Emmy-winning series shall carry on from its third season after Logan’s shocking decision to consider Matsson’s offer of buying Waystar Royco. Kendall, Shiv and Roman are expected to band together in an effort to relieve power from their father while Shiv and Tom’s marriage is also likely to come under the microscope, following the latter’s presumed betrayal. 

23. The Last of Us (HBO Max)

The post-apocalyptic video game adaptation will follow the story of the outbreak of a mutant Cordyceps fungus ravaged the United States, transforming its human hosts into aggressive creatures known as the Infected. 

Within this setting, we follow Joel, a smuggler tasked with transporting a teenager, Ellie, across the United States. Pedro Pascal, of Mandalorian fame and Bella Ramsey, known for her role in Game of Thrones have been cast, respectively, as the two protagonists in the TV adaptation.
