Koffee With Karan, the show known for Karan Johar spilling the tea on Bollywood celebs, is in its 18th year. Koffee With Karan Season 7 is currently streaming on Disney+Hotstar. Just like the neighbourhood aunty interested in all the gossip in your house, Karan Johar makes celebs reveal their relationship status, their colleagues' relationship status, and their general status.
Towards the end of the show, he has a rapid fire question-answer round, where celebs have to answer questions without blinking an eye. However, much to the amazement of Karan, several times, celebs have trained their guns against him in the most brutal manner... on his own couch.
Here are 5 times when celebs gave savage replies to Karan Johar.
1. Kangana’s swipe against Karan: Kangana, right from the beginning, seemed like she had decided she would go after Karan. She called Karan 'the flag-bearer of nepotism in the industry'. "You’ll play that stereotypical Bollywood biggie, who is like you know...very snooty and completely intolerant towards outsiders, the flag-bearer of nepotism, and the movie mafia,” Kangana told Karan, in response to a question on what role Karan would play in Kangana's biopic.
Kangana didn't stop at this. She also called out Karan for insulting her English, and how she has transformed herself, thanks to Karan's negative comments for her. This not only shocked Karan but also began the nepotism debate in Bollywood. So far, this has been the most savage reply to Karan by any celebrity.
That was Season 5. Since then, Karan has referred to this episode in probably all subsequent seasons.
2. Twinkle Khanna embarrasses Karan: Karan asked Twinkle which Khan she found the coolest, among Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir. To this, Twinkle replied, "Add one more Khan to this, Fawad Khan, and you answer this question."
Karan was left speechless again, and he tried to jump to the next question but his expressions were out there for everyone to see. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar laughed through it all.
3. Ajay Devgan on the 'K' factor: In the rapid fire round, Karan asked Ajay a superstition that the superstar was guilty of believing. He replied, “I had a superstition that all your movies that start with 'K' work until we did Kaal."
Kajol, who was with Ajay on the show, burst out laughing while Karan was left speechless. Ajay starred in a negative role in the 2006 movie Kaal, which was jointly produced by Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan. The movie was a dud at the box office.
4. Mira Rajput questions Karan Johar: Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput were on Karan's couch in Season 5. The tables were turned here, and at one point, Mira Rajput had a smart question for Karan. She tried to tell him that Karan would never mention Shahid’s name as a question to any of the guests on his show.
Mira asked Karan to rank a few actors based on their talent, and took the names of Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Sidharth Malhotra, Arjun Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.
On hearing this, Shahid asked, “Why am I not on the list?”
Mira replied, “Because he never mentions you in any of his lists”.
5. Shah Rukh trumps Karan: Shah Rukh Khan, who is known for his witty replies, left Karan silent. To the question, “Which Indian film you think you shouldn’t have been part of?”, Shah Rukh answered Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, of course, was made by Karan Johar.
While Kajol applauded SRK's answer, Karan had an unmissable expression.
