9 years of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: A delightful watch with unrealistic expectations
Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani completes 9 years today. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer is one of the go-to movies that many prefer re-watching over the weekend. The movie is a mix of all. As in, there is drama, romance, travel inspiration, (the Karan Johar touch) a wedding and a lot more. So basically, it is an all-in-one combo that sounds great but tastes like khichdi. Leaves you with no strong aftertaste, that is.
Well, it will be unfair to say that the movie is overrated. But it is equally right to say that you cannot cook all the ingredients with the same cooking method and use the same spices to deliver the best broth.
People who watch Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani for the first time often end up having some unrealistic, too inspiring expectations.
1. You cannot get everything
Ranbir Kapoor’s character, Bunny, gets everything in some way or the other.
But in the real world, this is not the case.
The movie leaves you confused because it becomes too hard to choose whether you want a job, a love life, friends, or a sense of humour like him. And most importantly, a job where you are always travelling!

2. You cannot write a letter and just leave
Towards the beginning of the movie, Naina, played by Deepika Padukone, is this studious girl who is no fun.
So, she simply leaves a letter for her mother saying that she is going on a trip to Manali.
Well, wow! It is not that simple. An Indian mother will follow you to Manali IRL.

3. You need to make decisions
In the real world, you need to decide and make decisions. But Bunny in the movie is a carefree guy.
He will leave the girl, he will suddenly make an appearance, he will express his love; basically, he will do whatever he wants to and rest, everyone needs to adjust.

4. No, Bunny should not be your role model
The character Bunny is very risky and is bored of dal chawal. But no matter how many countries you travel to, you come home and eat dal chawal as the first thing. Simply because it is your comfort zone.
So, you need dal chawal for mental peace. Similarly, in life, you need to have certain things fixed that you can call your dal chawal (comfort zone).
As mentioned earlier, you cannot be so indecisive and wish everything happened according to your wish.
Also, you won’t find photographers living a life like his ever, in real.
But yes, with good music and a refreshing storyline, the movie manages to impress the audience. And finally, Bunny proposed to Naina towards the end. So, it goes without saying, all’s well that ends well.
