Ezra Miller is not alone. More celebs who have spoken up about mental health issues

The Flash star Ezra Miller (who goes by they and them pronouns) has broken radio silence on the series of charges against them and are seeking treatment for “complex mental health issues”.

After having been charged with a felony offence on May 1 this year, Miller’s statement comes amid speculation on Warner Brothers cancelling the release of The Flash, a $100-million film under the studio's DC franchise, slated for a release in June 2023.

In a statement to Variety, Miller apologised for the troubling behaviour exhibited by them as of late, including assault and abuse allegations,

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

The most recent of the lot, the Spider-man star broke a fairly lengthy social media hiatus to announce his departure from social media over concerns for his mental health. The actor took to Instagram and talked about the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding mental health.

Holland also used his platform to promote one of the many charities his trust sponsors, which is Stem4 - a clinically advised platform catering to children suffering from mental afflictions.

In 2015, the Indian actress revealed that she was diagnosed with clinical depression and was seeking treatment for the same.

In an interview with NDTV, the actress opened up about the general fears of going public with her struggles with depression,

“ I woke up one morning just feeling empty you know like this pittish feeling in my stomach that I was telling them that I get this pittish feeling in my stomach. I woke up like feeling directionless, I didn't know where to go, I didn't know what to do and I had these bouts of feeling so low that I would just start crying at the drop of the hat, ”

She has since founded the LiveLoveLaugh Foundation, which focuses on creating awareness about mental health and providing resources for those in need.

In a 2017 interview with The Morning, the Suicide Squad actress hoped that talking about her mental health would help others.

"I'm very lucky. But I had depression. I had moments where I didn't want to carry on living. But then the guilt of feeling that way and not being able to tell anyone because I shouldn't feel that way just left me feeling blame and guilt."
- Cara Delevigne in an interview with The Morning

Delevigne has often spoken about the impossible demands of the fashion industry, body image, and more, in her attempts at provoking a conversation on mental health. Later, in a 2018 interview for Women in the World, she spoke about dealing with anxiety and depression.

In a 2016 interview with Miss Malini, Ileana D’Cruz opened up about her struggles with body dysmorphia, anxiety and depression.

The Barfi actress recounted having dealt with these problems throughout her life without actually having known what they were.

“The day I realised I have so much going wrong with me was the most defining moment of my life. I think the first part in really healing yourself is being aware that there’s something really wrong in the first place. I’m glad I’m not one of those people who’s in denial. I know there’s something seriously wrong. I’m aware that I am flawed, I’m aware that I have issues, I’m aware that I need to be able to be healthy, not just physically but mentally”

UK's Prince Harry lost his mother, Princess Diana, in a horrific car crash when he was just 12. The Duke of Sussex revealed in a 2017 interview with The Telegraph how the death of his mother had a serious detrimental impact on his life to follow.

After being made out as the ‘problem child’ of the Royal Family, Prince Harry recalled having spent most of his life living in denial that he was fine,

"I can safely say that losing my mum at the age of 12 and therefore shutting down all of my emotions for the last 20 years has had a quite serious effect on not only my personal life but my work as well... I have probably been very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions."

The Hollywood superstar has been fairly vocal about his battles with depression during his formative years. In a 2022 interview with ENews, the actor opened up about his preconceptions with mental health,

"I grew up an only child, and a dude. And you know, it's not in our nature to just talk about it because it makes us feel vulnerable. We don't want to feel vulnerable. It makes us feel weak, we shouldn't feel weak. We should have our s*** together. But that's not life."
- Dwayne Johnson

The actor has been an advocate of changing the conventional narrative surrounding mental health and emphasises on the courage of being vulnerable.
