The latest Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Shamshera has finally released in theatres and Twitter is going abuzz with positive reactions, particularly directed at the music and the acting performances. At the same time, some feel that the movie lacks depth. Others, however, are pointing out that the ‘blockbuster’ still has had a moderately low response for an opening day.

Mithoon’s music: The main title score along with the theme for the villain Shuddh Singh (Sanjay Dutt) has been garnering a lot of praise, courtesy of music director Mithoon. The grandiose orchestral score definitely suits a big-budget period piece such as Shamshera. Even for those who were put down by the film’s pacing and plot, the score proved to be a redeeming factor.

Ranbir’s comeback and Sanjay Dutt’s villainy: Shamshera marks Ranbir Kapoor’s first movie in four years (since Sanju) and obviously, the actor’s fans are going all gaga over his dual role as the bandit Shamshera and his son Balli. Sanjay Dutt’s antagonistic turn as Daroga Shuddh Singh has also been receiving positive reactions.

However, however: there are some tweets that point out how the film’s lack of emotional depth affects the overall impact of these performances. There are also some perspectives stating that Kapoor’s so-called ‘comeback’ is overhyped and not that impressive.

Low audience numbers: Infamous Youtube ‘critic’ Kamaal Rashid Khan AKA KRK is notorious for trashing mainstream Bollywood movies, especially if they star a star kid like Ranbir Kapoor. So, it is not surprising for him to tweet a photo of an empty theatre in Dubai. Stating that he is watching the movie alone in the hall, he termed it a ‘super duper disaster’!

Jokes aside, the situation seems to be similar back home. According to another tweet by film trade analyst Komal Nahta, several morning shows of the film were cancelled due to low audience numbers.

Whether Shamshera would prove to be the blockbuster comeback vehicle that Ranbir Kapoor’s fans were expecting or whether it would be another big-budget YRF flop like Thugs of Hindostan, that only time will tell. From the opening day turnout, the winds don't seem in favour of Ranbir and YRF.
