The wait is over. You may now see the Queen. Netflix has finally dropped the first trailer for the much-awaited Season 5 of The Crown, nearly two years after its last season and a mere two weeks from its release.
Peter Morgan’s historical drama, created as an adaptation of his stage play The Audience, captures the chronology of events in the life and reign of the late Queen Elizabeth, since she succeeded the throne from her father George VI.
The critically acclaimed Netflix original has received numerous accolades, including a total of 63 Primetime Emmy Award nominations for its first four seasons, winning twenty-one, including Outstanding Drama Series for its fourth season, and seven awards for the cast, making it one of the most decorated productions in Netflix history.
The fifth season marks the first season of the series to be released after both the death of Prince Philip on 9 April, 2021, as well as the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II herself, on 8 September, 2022 and will focus on the British monarchy in the 90s. Here is the trailer for the fifth season:
Every two seasons, new actors fill the roles to reflect the aging process over the periods of time portrayed. Here’s a quick look at the evolution of the recurring cast of characters in The Crown:
This season, the series shall cover arguably the most turbulent years in the history of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. Fans should expect to see the Queen’s famous “annus horribilis” speech, multiple IRA bombings, the Windsor Castle fire, the breakdown of three royal marriages, and of course, the tragic demise of Lady Diana Spencer.
The penultimate season in the planned six seasons of The Crown will premiere on Netflix on November 9, 2022.
