The journey of lyricist Kausar Munir and 5 songs that stand out
Writer Kausar Munir won the Best Lyricist award for her song Lehra Do, from the movie 83 at the IIFA awards 2022. Her song Lehra Do was much appreciated for its soulful lyrics. Quoting a few lines from her song:
“Himmat-e-marda agar ho
Sang Khuda bhi hota hai
Jo zamaane ko dikha de
Khud mein dum kya hota hai

JOURNEY OF KAUSAR MUNIR
Kausar Munir was a junior writer for the TV soap Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi. There she met director Vijay Krishna Acharya, who asked her to write a song for his directorial debut, Tashan (2008).
That’s how the song Falak Tak came about. Though the movie tanked at the box office, the song Falak Tak stood out. Munir won the Stardust award for Standout Performance by a Lyricist in 2009 for this song.
The music was composed by Vishal Shekhar and the song was written by Kausar Munir. All the other songs of the movie were written by Javed Akhtar.
Since then, Kausar Munir never looked back. In an era when male lyricists like Sameer Anjaan, Kumaar, Javed Akhtar dominated Bollywood, Munir quietly crept in and made her mark.
Kausar has written several hit songs like Saiyaara (Ek Tha Tiger), Maana ke Hum Yaar Nahi (Meri Pyari Bindu), Jhalla Wallah (Ishaqzaade), Bande Hai Hum Uske (Dhoom 3).
One of the most popular songs written by Kausar Munir is Aaj Se Teri for the movie Padman (2018). For the movie Secret Superstar, Kausar collaborated with actor Aamir Khan and composer Amit Trivedi. The movie was a super success, and Kausar’s lyrics in the song Baliye were received well.
