It’s a day to rejoice for The Powerpuff Girls’ fans as the original creator of the show, Craig McCracken, is all set to bring back the show to TV. McCracken is bringing the new animated version of the series in collaboration with Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.

What's new? The reboot will focus on the original 3 superheroes - Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup - and expand on their cinematic universe. The show will have all 3 heroes fighting against both new and old villains.

The original Powerpuff Girls series ran for 78 episodes on Cartoon Network and was centered on the child superheroes going to school, playing hopscotch, fighting villains and saving the world.

The girls lived with their father and creator, Professor Utonium, in the town of Townsville. Other notable characters were the Mayor (mayor of Townsville), Mojo Jojo (one of the villains). Ms Sarah Bellum (the Mayor’s secretary) and Ms Keane (the girls’ kindergarten teacher).

The original series has won 2 Emmy awards and multiple animation honours. The final episode aired on March 25, 2005.

Not just The Powerpuff Girls: Apart from The Powerpuff Girls, McCracken is also bringing back Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, with Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. The show will have a new cast of pre-school aged friends and is expected to be “as silly and playful as the original bunch”.

Sam Register, President of Cartoon Network Studio and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, said: “Along with his (McCracken) unparalleled sense of fun and imagination, he’s bringing two of his greatest works in The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and we are so excited for these characters to be a part of the new legacy taking shape at the studio.”
