Based on the eponymous novel by Camille DeAngelis, the coming-of-age story follows cannibal lovers Lee, played by Chalamet and Maren, played by Taylor Russel, starring opposite Chalamet as they travel across 80s America on a road trip under trying circumstances.
While Call Me By Your Name was a warming love story and Guadagnino’s Suspiria (2018) switched genres to psychedelic-horror, Bones and All feels like the spiritual love-child of the two previous projects, blending a telling romance with elements of grisly horror.
The official synopsis of the film reads,
Love blossoms between a young woman on the margins of society and a disenfranchised drifter as they embark on a 3,000-mile odyssey through the backroads of America. However, despite their best efforts, all roads lead back to their terrifying pasts and a final stand that will determine whether their love can survive their differences.
The ensemble cast also includes André Holland, Chloë Sevigny, David Gordon-Green, Jessica Harper, Jake Horowitz and Mark Rylance, alongside previous Call Me By Your Name collaborator Michael Stuhlbarg.
The film also marks Guadagnino’s reunion with screenwriter David Kajganich, having previously worked on Suspiria and A Bigger Splash (2015).
