Why Meghan Markle was not wearing her engagement ring at Invictus Games

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry fans have been speculating why the Duchess of Sussex was spotted without her engagement ring while attending the 2023 Invictus Games in Germany with her husband. Here's the real reason behind Meghan Markle's missing engagement ring.

A source told ET Online about the whereabouts of the engagement ring that Prince Harry gave to Meghan Markle in 2017 during his proposal. The source revealed that the engagement ring is currently undergoing repairs due to a loose setting.

For all those royal watchers, there's no need to speculate about any trouble in paradise.

Meghan Markle publicly wore the ring for the first time in November 2017 when news of her engagement was made public.

  • Prince Harry designed the ring himself with the assistance of the Queen's jeweler, Cleave & Company.
  • The royal engagement ring features three diamonds. The center stone was sourced from Botswana, a place Harry visited during his childhood and where the couple celebrated Meghan's 36th birthday and spent quality time together.
  • The other two diamonds are from Princess Diana's personal collection.
  • The ring's classic gold band was also chosen by Harry.

Although the Duchess of Sussex, aged 42, has not been wearing her engagement ring, she has been photographed wearing her wedding band.

Markle's wedding band is made of Welsh gold, a tradition in the royal family, dating back to the Queen Mother's wedding in 1923.

Markle and Harry, aged 39, are currently in Düsseldorf, Germany, for the Invictus Games event until September 16. They have been enjoying quality time together during the sports event.

What are the Invictus Games?

The Invictus Games is a multi-sporting event held in honor of wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veterans.

  • On Thursday, September 14, during day six of the competition created by Harry, the couple met with the NATO Joint Force Command and families from Italy and the Netherlands.

  • Friday, September 15, will be a special day at the games as Prince Harry celebrates his 39th birthday. The Invictus Games will host the closing ceremony on Saturday.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met for the first time in 2016. They got engaged in 2017 and tied the knot in 2018.

The couple are parents to two children: their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, who was born in 2019, and their daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, born in 2021.
