With shooting and archery excluded, weightlifting was the only event where Indians were winning medals at the Commonwealth Games 2022. But, in the last three days, wrestlers, boxers and track and field athletes have been on a medal-winning run, especially gold, to put India at the fifth place, just one gold medal behind New Zealand.

On the 10th day of the Games in the UK's Birmingham on Sunday (June 7), India won 15 medals, including five golds. India has so far won 55 medals including 18 gold, 15 silver and 22 bronze medals.

We take a look how Indian athletes have put India in the top 5 during the last three days:

Wrestling powerhouse: Indian wrestlers have again proven that the country has now become a powerhouse in wrestling.

Wrestling, by far, has been the biggest medal contributor for India at CWG 2022. India finished their two-day wrestling campaign with 12 medals, which included 6 golds. All 12 Indian wrestlers won medals, just like they did in CWG 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia.

While Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Ravi Dahiya were expected to win gold medals, three more gold medals from Sakshi Malik, Deepak Punia and Naveen gave the Indian contingent a big boost. Wrestler Anshu Malik won silver, while Mohit Grewal, Deepak Nehra, Pooja Gehlot, Divya Kakran and Pooja Sihag won bronze medals in their weight categories.

Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian woman to win 3 successive gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, while Olympic silver medallist Ravi Dahiya needed a little less than 7 minutes to win his maiden CWG gold medal..

Boxing glory: Indian boxers, followed the medal rush from the wrestlers and went on to win three gold medals. While Nitu Ghanghas, Amit Panghal and Nikhat Zareen won gold medals, Sagar Ahlawat had to settle for silver after losing the final of the men's +92kg event on Sunday.

India has won six medals so far in boxing at CWG 2022, which includes 3 gold and 3 silver medals.

Amit Panghal avenged his last CWG final loss by clinching the men's flyweight (51kg) gold while Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) won gold on her debut. World Champion Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal in the women's 50kg flyweight to complete a hat-trick of gold medals for India in boxing.

Triple Jumpers script history: Sunday (June 7) was a historic day for Indian athletics. During the men's triple jump event, the first two spots were grabbed by Indians, followed by another one at the fourth place.

Eldhose Paul won the gold with a 17.03m jump, followed by his statemate Abdulla Aboobacker at second place with a fifth round jump of 17.02m. India's Praveen Chitravel, who came to the CWG as the second best Indian with a season's best of 17.18m, finished at fourth with 16.89m.

The 25-year-old Paul became only the sixth Indian to win a CWG gold since legendary Milkha Singh won it in 1958 in 440 yards, reported PTI.

Avinash Sable's dream run: India's Avinash Sable's dream run against the trio of Kenyans will be the biggest highlight for India at CWG 2022.

Sable was in the fourth place, following three Kenyan athletes relentlessly. And, in the final few seconds, he did what many thought was unthinkable. Not only did he go past two Kenyans, he was very close to clinching the gold in the event.

It was India's first-ever CWG medal in men's steeplechase. And, for the first time since 1998, there was a non-Kenyan at the podium in steeplechase.

Where to watch Commonwealth Games in India: All the sporting events from Birmingham will be broadcast live on Sony TEN 1, Sony TEN 2, Sony TEN 3, Sony SIX, and Sony TEN 4 channels. Live streaming of the Games will also be available on the SonyLIV app and website.
