Fire Vince McMahon trends online, but is the WWE Universe justified in wanting Triple H back?

There has been a massive backlash against Vince McMahon ever since reports came that he is back as head of creatives in WWE since last episode of RAW. Photo: Getty

In pro-wrestling, they say that it's never the end. And it held true for former Chairman of the company, Vince McMahon. Vince was out of the scheme of things last July after a sling of accusations against him, from sexual misconduct to hush money payments. He resigned as the Board member of the company, and finally retired from WWE.

On his Twitter account, he wrote, “At 77, its time for me to retire.Thank you WWE Universe. Then.Now. Forever.Together.”

Paul 'Triple H' Levesque was handed over the role of head of creatives of the company, and the WWE Universe was happy at Vince finally leaving the stage.

But right after WrestleMania 39, Vince McMahon, with a new moustache, appeared on the scene; along with the news that he finally has agreed to merge WWE with UFC under the Endeavour Group to form a new sports company, worth $21.4 billion.

McMahon then reappeared on the scene on Monday Night Raw, where it was said that the former Chairman made a lot of changes to the already written scripts and made drastic changes in the storylines.

This didn’t go down well with fans, who thought Vince McMahon was spoiling the stage that his son-in-law Triple H had built so passionately over the past six months.

And then, #FireVinceMcMahon began trending on Twitter.

Why do fans want Vince McMahon out?

The WWE Universe was already disenchanted with a dismal ending to the main event of WrestleMania 39, where a deserving Cody Rhodes was handed a defeat and Roman Reigns was made to win, with an interference from The Bloodline members. In essence, Cody was robbed of a lifetime opportunity that wrestlers live for - that is, to be crowned the WWE Champion in WrestleMania main event.

On top of that, Monday Night’s RAW further increased their anxieties when Brock Lesnar was made a heel and was made to turn on Cody Rhodes in what looked like a perfect Vince McMahon plan. Lesnar, who had been enjoying being a mid-carder up till now, was turned into a heel the same night as he smashed Cody Rhodes for an F5 before their tag team match against Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa began.

Fans feel that Vince McMahon, by ordering a lot of rewriting of segments in RAW and making big changes in the plans made by Triple H, was doing injustice to the months of hard work of Triple H.

Triple H delivered as per expectations

It was the booking of Triple H for bringing in Sami Zayn as a baby face in the Bloodline and then teaming him with Kevin Owens against the Usos in WrestleMania 39. The match was a massive success and it received roar from the crowd at WrestleMania.

It was Triple H who scripted the much-hyped feud between Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio, which brought the WWE Universe behind Rey Mysterio.

It was Triple H who brought in Edge for a Hell in a Cell match against Demon Finn Balor and doing full justice to the legacy of The Rated R Superstar, by making him win the match towards the end of his career.

And it was Triple H who brought Gunther from the NXT and put him into one of the most intense matches of WrestleMania 39, against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Gunther is now considered as a main-eventer for next year's WrestleMania.

Triple H, in a way, had been delivering satisfying stories, the ones which kept the WWE Universe happy.

And when Vince took over on Monday Night RAW and changed things, fans voiced their furore against Vince on Twitter.

Soon after RAW ended, Twitter hashtags like #WorstRaw, #FireVince #FireVinceMcMahon began trending and still are.

Take a look at a few reactions:

1. 'Vince needs to go':

2. 'Vince's fingerprints all over it':

3. 'Vince belongs to a jail cell':

4. 'Chant Fire Vince McMahon in Smackdown':

What’s next?

As Vince is back as Executive Chairman of the Board, storylines might see a change from here. The company, knowing that there is all-out anger against McMahon, has said that Friday Night’s Smackdown would be opened by Triple H.

The company intends to tell the fans that the show would be run by Triple H only as the Head of Creatives. But not many are willing to buy this story.

Even Endeavour Group is aware of the massive backlash against Vince McMahon and if this intensifies, McMahon might be asked to stay behind curtains.

Friday Night Smackdown and the next episode of Monday Night RAW will reveal how fans react to the show.
