IPL 2022 has been phenomenal for some players, while it has been disappointing for some. Many big names have struggled to make an impact, while some from domestic circuit performed extremely well.
For example, the form of Virat Kohli was discussed throughout the tournament. The former RCB captain struggled with the bat in almost all the matches. Same goes for Chennai’s Ruturaj Gaikwad who shot to fame during the last year’s IPL, but failed to make an impact this season.
Here are three big players who failed terribly in IPL 2022:
KIERON POLLARD (MUMBAI INDIANS)
The powerful Caribbean hitter for Mumbai Indians (MI) was retained at Rs 6 crore. But Pollard's performance has been dismal this season. Throughout the tournament, he looked completely out of touch.
The allrounder could make only 144 runs in 11 matches he played, at an average of 14.40. With the ball also Pollard failed, as he could take only four wickets in 11 matches.
Poor form of Pollard was one of the main reasons why MI was at the bottom of the table.
Here are his stats this season:
Matches: 11
Runs: 144
Highest score: 25
Average: 14.40
S/R: 107.46
VENKATESH IYER (Kolkata Knight Riders)
The Madhya Pradesh allrounder turned out to be a star player for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2021. Iyer was acquired by KKR at Rs 20 lakh. But, after his stunning performance, KKR in 2022, retained him at Rs 8 crore.
However, this year Iyer had a tough time. The management of KKR constantly changed his batting positions, which also affected his game. The result was that Iyer could score only 169 runs in 11 matches at an average of 16.55.
With the ball also, he failed completely, as he could not take a single wicket in four overs he bowled in his whole season. Seems like the KKR management went terribly wrong in managing Iyer.
Here are his stats:
Matches: 12
Runs: 182
Highest score: 50
Average: 16.55
Strike Rate: 107.69
JASPRIT BUMRAH (MUMBAI INDIANS)
One of the best bowlers in the world, Bumrah, failed to make an impression in IPL 2022. The star MI pacer was retained at whopping Rs 12 crore. But he couldn’t deliver this time.
Despite a 5-wicket haul against KKR, Bumrah could clinch only 15 wickets in 14 matches. Last year Bumrah had scalped 21 wickets in 13 matches and was also the third highest wicket taker in the tournament. But this season he looked completely out of form.
Here are his stats this season:
Matches: 14
Wickets: 15
Runs: 383
Average: 25.33
Economy: 7.18
