Nepal's men's cricket team had a remarkable day at the Asian Games 2022, shattering three world records in one go and becoming the first team to achieve a 300-plus total in T20Is on this memorable Wednesday, September 27.

Playing against Hong Kong, Nepal scored 314/3 in 20 overs, with two of its batters setting records for the fastest-ever hundred and fifty in T20Is.

Kushal Malla's century

  • Nepal's 19-year-old left-handed sensation, Kushal Malla, emerged as the star of the show by scoring the fastest-ever T20I hundred in just 34 balls.
  • Malla's innings broke the previous record, jointly held by South Africa's David Miller and Indian Captain Rohit Sharma, who achieved it in 35 balls.
"I am thrilled to have been a part of this historic moment. It's an honour to represent Nepal and make our nation proud. Records are made to be broken, and I'm delighted to have achieved this milestone."

  • Batting at No. 3, Malla hit an astonishing 12 sixes and 8 fours, remaining unbeaten on a remarkable 137 runs.

Dipendra Singh Airee's fifty

  • Nepal's No. 5 batsman, Dipendra Singh Airee, also etched his name in the record books with a nine-ball fifty, surpassing Yuvraj Singh's 16-year-old record.
  • Yuvraj had taken 12 balls to score a fifty during the World T20 match against England on September 19, 2007, the same match where Yuvraj had famously hit Stuart Broad for six consecutive sixes in an over.

This extraordinary batting display cemented Nepal's place in cricket history. The Nepal team also participated in the Asia Cup 2023.

The previous record for the highest innings total in a T20I was held by Afghanistan, who scored 278 for 3 against Ireland on February 23, 2019.
