ICC T20 World Cup will kick-start on October 16. Last year, the tournament was held in Oman and UAE and Australia emerged as the winner. This time, the defending champions will be up against 11 other teams.
In the first match, Sri Lanka and Namibia will square off against each other at Kardinia Park in Geelong, Melbourne, Australia. On the same day, UAE and Netherlands will face each other on the same ground. 12 teams will participate in the tournament. The teams are divided into two groups. The final will be played in Melbourne on November 13.
Indian team is in Australia and will play a couple of practice matches before they face arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23 at Melbourne.
Super 12: India is in the Group 2 of the Super 12 along with Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh. Group 1 has Australia, England, New Zealand, Afghanistan while 2 other teams teams from Group A&B will also qualify for Group 1 and Group 2.
India has five matches lined up in the group stages.
Indian team for the world cup: Indian team in the World Cup is without Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar. Chahar was ruled out of the World Cup because of a back injury sustainted against South Africa in the recent series.
The trio of Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur are travelling to Australia on Thursday to join the Indian team. However, it is not clear which of the three will be in the squad.
For India, Shami is most likely to replace Bumrah as he is the senior-most bowler in the team. However, Shami has not played a T20I match since last T20 World Cup in November 2021.
But a big plus point for India would be the form of right-handed batter Suryakumar Yadav, allrounder Hardik Pandya and an inform Virat Kohli. From the bowling unit, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal will be out to watch for.

India's history in T20 World Cup: India has won only the inaugural edition of the World Cup in 2007 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
2009: India was knocked out of the event after losing three consecutive matches to West Indies, England and South Africa.
2010: India lost in the group stages to Australia, Sri Lanka and host West Indies.
2012: India started off well but after losing a match to Australia in the super eight group was knocked out of the tournament.
2014: India under Dhoni went to the finals but lost to Sri Lanka by six wickets.
2016: India got off to a poor start but bounced back and reached the semi-finals to face West Indies. However, the team lost to Darren Sammy's side.
2021: India lost the first two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand and was crashed out of the tournament.
