Why John Cena should stop wrestling for WWE

For World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), John Cena was there when nobody was. The Rock had left in 2004, Stone Cold didn’t want to wrestle, Brock Lesnar had moved to UFC, and Goldberg had quit wrestling.

The company suddenly didn’t have a face, and it was the time when John Cena rose to the occasion. For the next 10 years (2005-2015), John Cena carried the company on his shoulders, becoming a household name and a star the company never thought could be.

Years ago, an Indian expatriate in Saudi told me, “There are only two things popular in Saudi Arabia: football and John Cena.” When John Cena walked off after losing to Solo Sikoa at the Crown Jewels in Saudi Arabia on November 5, it shattered the hearts of many Saudi wrestling fans.

Cena had defeated Sikoa’s cousin Umaga not once but twice in main events back in 2007. Now, 16 years down the line, losing to his nephew Solo Sikoa, a newbie in WWE, in such an embarrassing way hasn’t gone well with his followers.

Making Cena lose in front of his fans was never a good idea. Why would the company annoy his fans match after match, despite knowing that he is only a part-time wrestler with only a few years left in wrestling?

Why Cena should seriously think about leaving WWE

  • In the last five years, John Cena has been reduced to a mere performer who has been put over wrestlers to push their careers.
  • The last time John Cena won a singles fight at any pay-per-view event was in 2018 at the Crown Jewels in Saudi Arabia, against Triple H.
  • It’s been more than 2000 days since Cena has won a singles match in WWE.
  • The wrestler knows that this is a bit annoying for his die-hard fans, who have still not moved over him.
  • However, the company wants to push other wrestlers by sacrificing Cena.
  • It started with losing to Roman Reigns in No Mercy in 2018. Reigns was struggling, and Cena was used to pushing Reigns as the face of the company. And it didn’t work.
  • Then in WrestleMania 34 (2019), Cena was made to lose against the Undertaker, a booking which nobody understood.
In WrestleMania 35 (2020), Cena was put over by Late Bray Wyatt.
  • In SummerSlam 2021, Cena returned and again lost to Roman Reigns, a match which made no sense.
  • On top of that, Brock Lesnar returned after the match and gave an F5 to Cena, and again, this went nowhere as Cena vanished again after this fight.
  • In WrestleMania 39 (2023), Cena returned but was made to lose against Austin Theory because the company thought Austin had it in him, and a push by Cena would boost his career.
  • In the last five years, Cena has lost 5 singles matches. He still doesn’t fret about it, but his losing the matches also is doing no good for his image.
  • Moreover, none of the wrestlers against which Cena has been booked have really grown.
  • Austin Theory hasn’t gone anywhere, Bray Wyatt is no more, and now Solo Sikoa being a heel is not expected to make anything from this match.

It's high time WWE stops making Cena a scapegoat for its own shortcomings.

Will Cena return and face Solo Sikoa again?

  • If the Crown Jewel event is not the last one for Cena, he could be expected to return to WWE ahead of WrestleMania 40 to face Sikoa in a redemption match.
  • However, the company hasn’t revealed any rematch, and it is mere speculation by fans.
  • If Cena returns to WrestleMania 40, then he must win it and close the WWE chapter once and for all.
  • He has given everything to the company, and to watch him lose to amateur wrestlers simply breaks your heart.

Moreover, Cena's Hollywood career is on the rise, and there's no reason for him to come back to the squared ring and then go back after losing matches year after year.
