WWE SummerSlam 2022: Why Brock Lesnar has an edge over Roman Reigns

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) wrestler Brock Lesnar will face current WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns on July 30 at the SummerSlam event in Nissan Stadium at Tennessee in US.

The two have previously fought against each other 7 times, with The Tribal Chief (Roman Reigns) winning twice. In the last SummerSlam in 2018, Reigns had defeated Lesnar to win the WWE Universal Championship.

But it was a different time and both the wrestlers were playing different characters. While Reigns had played a baby face who was being pushed by the company despite the negative reaction he got from the crowd, Lesnar was a hot heel.

But in SummerSlam 2022, the roles have reversed. Now, Reigns plays a heel (pretty much liked by the fans) and Lesnar is playing a baby face. His advocate Paul Heyman is backing Reigns in the match.

Who has the edge? Experts have their own predictions regarding the outcome of the match. But, you never know what’s up the sleeve of Vince McMahon, the Chairman of the company. Though Vince has officially retired, he still is in a position to call the major shots in the company.

So here are the three predictions:

1.    Reigns finally ends this rivalry by beating Lesnar in the match with the assistance of Usos and Lesnar goes back for a couple of months.
2.    Austin Theory cashes his Money in the Bank contract and makes it a triple threat contest but Reigns pins him down winning the match.
3.    Lesnar decimates Reigns completely and wins the Unified WWE Championship and faces a mega star in his next match.

Though the predictions fall in Roman Reigns’ favour, Lesnar is has an edge against him.

Why? Lesnar has competed in 10 SummerSlam matches since 2002 and has won 6 of them and losing only four. The last match he lost in SummerSlam 2019 was against Seth Rollins. Before that, he only lost to Roman Reigns (2018), The Undertaker (2015) and Kurt Angle (2003).

In the first six months of his debut in 2002, he triumphed over The Rock at SummerSlam (2002) and won the WWE championship. He went on to beat Triple H (2012), CM Punk (2013), John Cena (2014) and Randy Orton (2016) and Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman in a fatal four match in 2017.

The Beast Incarnate marked his return in the last SummerSlam 2021 and challenged Reigns. He lost the contest to Reigns in WrestleMania 38 though.

This SummerSlam will be his last feud with Reigns. Even WWE has hinted their plans of making this one the last of the rivalry between the two.

In that case, it looks highly probable that Lesnar might win this duel and he defends the title against a mega star in the next pay-per view match.

Lesnar is hot favourite of WWE: Lesnar is a hot guy in the roster of WWE. Apart from Roman Reigns, there isn’t any other superstar who can pull the crowd like Lesnar does.

Randy Orton is injured, John Cena has been out for some time and other big wrestlers like Seth Rollings and AJ Styles, Bobby Lashley aren’t equivalent to Lesnar.
In that scenario, WWE would not want to send Lesnar behind the curtains for a long time by getting him to lose the match. He has been arguably the greatest athlete WWE has ever produced.

In a way, its not Lesnar who needs WWE, but WWE which needs Lesnar.

The rest we will come to know on July 30 at SummerSlam. The event will be live at WWE Network on SonyLiv App.
