Seven things only Instagram's youngest style icon can teach you

Gentlemen, it's that time of the year again. Start reshuffling your wardrobe. From black-and-white to statement suits last season to luxury fabrics and, of course, the biggest throwback to old times - rock 'n' roll - we're on the threshold of finding out the essentials that must make it to your wardrobe.

With winter around the corner, give your Bermuda shorts and linen suits a rest (for now). We've braved the heat, the rain and the humidity - all armed in style this year. Now let's get ready for the final leg - winter 2015.

For this good reason, I wanted a very special someone to teach you a thing or two about what you should wear this winter. He is an instagram style icon - he could give Enrique Iglesias a run for his money in a beanie cap or the Guns N' Roses in a leather jacket, and even Justin Beiber in drop crotch pants.

And, you and I put together in boots and aviators. He owns more designer clothes and accessories and boasts of 73K likes on Facebook. At his age, I was still struggling not to pee my pants. He is neither the guy next door nor a celebrity kid. The five or six-year-old kid owns a David Bowie vintage tee, just so you know. And he is as cute as a button.

Here's presenting winter's sartorial mentor, lo and behold, Alonso Mateo.

The must-haves this cold:

A one-man army: Think army green and camouflage. Think Nikolaj Coster Waldau in Black Dawn Down and not Game of Thrones. If you're actually in the army then you'd have no problems incorporating this look. If you're not improvise but, just ensure you don't get run over by the IAV Stryker. There's no need to head to Sudan or Somalia to get inspired. Take your cue from the pro below:

Fantastical fur: This one's a little tricky. But, "Mateo says you're not left to your own devices". For us, less is more. While you might envy Tyga and Chris Brown's fur coats in their 'Ayo' video, don't forget that fur is murder. If proved guilty, how do you plead? But, as long as it's faux, I guess, we're safe. Do it at your own peril.

Turtle vibe: Under a jacket or as is, the turtleneck sweater is imperative this winter. You can go anywhere you like with it. It can even mask you hickies the next day after you've been stunk all night by whom so ever you've been banging. Fussy neckties, not now please.

Pile them up: Thou shall wear a jacket over a jacket. Besides keeping warm the look also lends an edgy finish. The idea must have crossed your mind and you thought it was silly. Not anymore. Throw a leather jacket over a denim jacket, a denim over formals, formals over hoodies and even a trench over a trench. Don't let the weight bother you. The only concern is laundry. Because if you're doing it yourself, god save you.

Total blackout: Be it a couple of drinks with the boys or even a hot date. Show up in black- exclusively. ( Little Mateo below is an exception. He's your mentor, remember?). I still consider it a high fashion color- mysterious, erotic and posh. No points for being shady though.

Print preview: I'm a little bit in favor of prints in a man's wardrobe. It reflects flamboyance and eclecticism. It doesn't necessarily need to be as noisy as a Ranver Singh's floral suit or a Pharrell's. All that's required is a clean approach and settle on it. A printed waistcoat, for example, could add some element of fun into your dreary navy blue or black suit. Your safest bet- a scarf, a pocket square and socks.

Master cold weather in style: Don't treat your outerwear any less than your underwear (though we take them off at different timings). A go-anywhere trench coat is something you should invest. It would last you a lifetime (provided, if you don't leave it at your one-night stand's). It will keep you cozy and protect your expensive suit while you're on the go. Pick up basic tones like grey, black or tan that would complement your everyday wear to begin with. Then you can expand your collection by adding in prints/checks/stripes and more adventurous colors. Make a statement and tell the world that what they see is what they get.

And, that's how you gear up for the final leg. The good news is, men you're still in the running towards becoming Instagram's next style icon.

For now, peace out bro!
