Deepika and Ranbir have moved on. Please stop the Tamasha

As newbies, when they appeared in public hand in hand, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone broke the unwritten code of silence on relationship statuses followed in the industry. How they dealt with each other as exes broke another.

Their break up kept Bollywood gossips sections alive for months. Much like their very public romance, their split too became a public spectacle. He, the dashing Kapoor scion, ditched Bollywood's next-big-thing Deepika Padukone after a whirlwind romance for her contemporary. It was years ago, but we haven't had enough of it. The two have clearly moved on in their lives, but as they promote their second movie together post their break up, it is the questions about their chemistry with each other that make headlines. Film comes later.

Professional actors that they are, the two themselves have been using their history to the hilt to make gains for their movie. In Bollywood, the biggest of the stars have been evasive about their exes, the very same people they once fell in love with. No wonder the press is fixated on the duo's affair and how they dealt with their break-up. Do they have feelings for each other? Have they really moved on? Yes, they have, they confessed, but the feelings have changed with time, and that the awkwardness is long gone and it would be their loss if they didn't come together as professionals despite having a crackling chemistry on screen.

Working with an ex and dodging question on "feelings for each other" is not an option, and the two have done extremely well dealing with these. As celebrities curiosity about their public lives is natural. But, by now we know enough details on the status of their relationship. After four years of affair and as many years of moving on, the two deserve to be given a break from the intrusive questions that they have answered for a long time now.

In the same industry we have seen megastars of yesteryears avoiding eye contact with people they were romantically involved with, casanovas storming out of press conference for being prodded about their ex. We have also seen ex lovers making a mockery of their former partners claiming they don't think about their past. In the process we have seen some fabulous actors falling out to never come together. What we hadn't seen was former lovers facing the demons to give a new dimension to their relationship, patching up as friends, claiming they still care for each other, and working together.

About time we stopped gaping in awe and moved on.
