Midweek blues hit hard on Wednesdays. We feel tired, hopeless and irritated. And we let ourselves get distracted by slightest of the things - from planning our Friday evenings and weekend shenanigans, to dreading the weekend ending in the blink of an eye just to be back to the Monday grind.

So, how to beat the midweek blues?

Here are a few tips.

  • Focus on one task at a time: Whilst people focus on multitasking or juggling two or more things at once to save time, this is not always the best thing to do. It is crucial to diligently finish one task at a time – this helps you finish your work efficiently, quickly and in an organised manner.
  • To-do list: Have your tasks of the day written in front of you in a to-do list format so you know what all you have to accomplish within the designated time frame. Prioritise and delegate your tasks.

  • Take short, regular breaks: Sometimes, you want to finish one big task or smalls tasks in one go and might not want to take breaks in between. However, this might affect your overall productivity and concentration levels. Studies showcase that taking breaks at regular intervals can help prevent fatigue or burnout. Use these breaks to bond with colleagues, friends or finish up some household chore (if you’re working from home). Breaking the monotony can help you feel refreshed and rejuvenated to tackle your next assignment.
  • Get your most dreaded task out of the way first: Everyone has that one assignment on their to-do list that they hate or are least excited to start with. It is actually this very task that you should tackle first. Getting this out of your way will make other tasks seem less daunting and you’ll feel more at ease.
  • Move around or exercise: A bit of physical movement never hurt anybody! Get up and maybe walk around for a few minutes. Also, making exercise a part of one’s daily routine has proven to improve long-term productivity.

  • Balance your life with hobbies and do things you enjoying do: A good way to achieve work-life balance and to keep that zeal to work the next morning is by doing something that you enjoy. Could be a hobby, sports, listening to music, baking, cooking etc anything that makes you happy and is a stress-buster. So, maybe listen to your favourite song before starting a major task.
  • Limit distractions: It’s a judgment call! You are well aware of what distracts you while you’re working. It could be anything from continuously scrolling through Instagram Reels or chatting with a friend - it’s important to limit your distractions to best achieve your goals in the set time period.
