How to make your Instagram GenZ friendly: A 10-point guide for Millennials

But before we go in any further, one thing to remember is that GenZ Instagram feeds are all about experimenting; be it in your personal style or music choices.

Here are 10 steps that will set you right down the GenZ Instagram path:

1. CHOOSE YOUR STYLE

Maybe Y2K fashion is your calling or dark academia is what exactly describes your vibe. Don't be afraid to try on a few looks and figure out what your perfect style is.

2. COORDINATE, COORDINATE AND COORDINATE

GenZ Instagram feeds are all about coordination and planning. If you want to be more mysterious, how about trying out a completely black and white feed? Or if you really love your plant babies, then how about testing out a cottagecore feed style? The secret to a perfectly designed feed is in the art of being able to plan it.

3. REEL IT

For millennials, reels feel like fancy Facebook albums. But there is a certain craft that goes into making a viral reel. All you have got to do is try new shooting techniques on your cameras, try to find a similar aesthetic, and make a whole bunch of videos. Here is a reel for your inspiration:

4. PHOTO DUMPS

Got a bunch of pictures that you absolutely love but have no idea what to do with? Make a photo dump! Photo dumps may be the easiest thing to make a check mark against on this list. Find a couple of pictures that are of a similar vibe, throw them together, and you have an aesthetically pleasing photo dump on your feed.

Photo dumps can either be in a reel format:

or just a regular post:

5. USE A FILM CAMERA

Got an old 90s film camera at home? If yes, brush the dust off of it, find some film and go crazy with the pictures. The 70s to 90s film aesthetic is making a huge comeback and the new generation is quite literally fighting to get their hands on a vintage film camera. Take a look at these posts for some shooting inspiration:

6. SHORT CAPTIONS

The shorter, the better. Using lengthy captions not only bores viewers, but also distracts them from the photo you posted. With short captions, you will able to bring focus to your picture and also give context.

7. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC

Late 90s and early 2000s kids would be glad to know that most of the music they vibed to has made a comeback on Instagram, along with new artists such as Doja Cat, Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow. With your reels or just plain old Instagram stories, try adding in catchy modern-day songs to really nail that GenZ style.

8. MAKE A MINI-VLOG

Making a day trip to the grocery store or taking a weekend vacation with all your friends? Make a plan on how you would like to shoot videos and make a mini-vlog. Usually ranging between 20-30 seconds, mini-vlogs are super convenient ways to document your entire day. Here is one for your inspiration:

9. EXPERIMENT WITH MAKEUP

Try out new eyeshadow looks or experiment with white and green eyeliner. Once you ace that makeup look, whip your camera out, take a billion pictures, and flood your Instagram. Check this one out for some much-needed inspiration:

10. AND FINALLY: IT'S A MEME WORLD!

You may have excellent corporate-based humour but it's time to update it and move on to GenZ-based memes. Try out some raccoon memes or cat memes. This post may help you kick off your viral meme journey:

Now that you have your guide, it's time to start curating your feed!
