With plans to expand by adding a fifth terminal, the airport aims to return to pre-pandemic levels of passenger traffic and anticipates that the new biometric system will enhance the travel experience and security for a growing number of travelers.

Dubai International Airport blazed the trail in 2018 with its biometric "Smart Gates" tunnels, using facial recognition to swiftly verify travelers' identities, providing alternatives like fingerprints or facial scans for authentication instead of physical passports.

Additionally, Aruba has introduced digital IDs compliant with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, allowing travelers to utilize secure digital passport versions on their mobile phones.
