Why you need to stop wearing skinny jeans

Sometimes all you need is a man to give you the skinny you on fashion. And it's absurdities. Recently The Guardian published a piece vilifying one of fashion’s worst trends: The skinny jeans.

“Derided as part of the hipsters' uniform, maligned by women’s magazines as unflattering, declared dead, only to refuse to die – it has long been clear that skinny jeans can do nothing right.” The writer Adam Gabbatt goes on to explain that, “Skinny jeans mean the days of getting undressed gracefully are gone. Skinny jeans mean the days of undressing someone else gracefully are gone. Skinny jeans have won.”

Well the battle against this ugly fit is heating up. Retailers have decided to join the movement against these unflattering pants. Yes, they have their bottom line in mind and are pushing for a new trend to get sales figures back up but they have my support.

The truth is that this is perhaps the worst trend for the Indian body. To make it work you need a child's hips and an Ostrich’s skinny long legs. Barring a few models, it makes the rest of us look the opposite of skinny. It also manages to create a muffin top when there is none.

I think that is to do with the fact that they need to be spray painted on and the fat gets pushed up above the hips. Don't even get me started on what it looks like on the Indian male who in spite of all the bad press still continues to only work his upper body. In his case, the jeans only highlight this blind spot.

The wonderful news is that the new denim actually addresses all these issues by being looser in the leg and higher on the waist. But I am most excited about the other trouser trend. The dressy sweat pant.Yes, it is exactly that.

Only once in a blue moon does fashion allow comfort to wed design – take advantage of it. A healthy dose of common sense is a great way to develop a personal style.

And in case you are thinking of going back to your skinnies, perhaps this will stop you. It seems the trend has now been certified dangerous and responsible for “bentgate”. Yup, the ultra fit has been labeled as the cause behind the damage of the new iPhone 6. Seems they can bend steel. Or aluminum, as the case might be.
