The Chaat Battle of Baghpat turns 2. Einstein Chacha still a war hero

Remember when two groups of warring shopkeepers fought it out in the mean streets of Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat? Yes, that iconic brawl happened on this very day, the 22nd of February, in the year 2021.

While escalated fistfights are quite common in our country and for our country’s media, what made the Battle of Baghpat stand out was one distinct figure involved in the violence: a middle-aged man with frizzy, uncombable hair who was later dubbed as “Einstein Chacha” by social media.

What exactly happened in this battle?

Violence erupted in 2021 when two chaat sellers started competing over attracting customers. When the business competition got too intense, men with rods and sticks began running around and right then...

Einstein Chacha became a WWE star.

Yes, WWE has often done Indian-origin wrestlers dirty but they must feature Einstein Chacha, with the Baghpat video being his audition clip. While most of the other participants of the Battle were much younger than Chacha, he still valiantly took them down one by one.

Even when he fell at certain moments, he could still get up easily and grab hold of his enemies to pin them down to the road. If Einstein Chacha did have a biopic made on him, it should be aptly named “Meri Jung: One Man Army”.

Who won this Gangs of Wasseypur spinoff?

Eventually, both sides had to give up fighting as they were detained by the “po-po”. The photos of the fighters in police custody reveal their sullen faces (probably because the fight ended in a tie). Einstein Chacha himself sported a swollen eye in the photograph.

Meanwhile, Indian social media were blessed with viral meme fodder with memes bestowing the title of WWE Chaat Royal Rumble to Chacha while some video edits replaced the sticks in the fight with lightsabers.

Here are a few of the many reactions on Twitter:

"Two years since the most iconic fight in history of independent India - Baaghpat Chaat Yudh. Kids will be taught about this in their history textbooks and how these bravehearts went to jail."

"A valiant saga worthy of being recreated on screen by Akshay Kumar."

"Brave, determined fighters. Never give up attitude. Came back up after being down and out. Heroes."

"A golden chapter in the history of India. A battalion led by a ferocious commander who never gave up even when pinned to the ground."

Even Australian YouTuber OzzyMan who is globally known for his commentary and reaction videos had this to say about the whole Baghpat affair,

"Welcome to Baghpat. It currently reminds of Martin Scorsese’s movie Gangs of New York. Smart casual shirt bloke was going ballistic with his stick but meme-sensation Indian Einstein said, ‘Ye, nah’."

Truly, the Battle of Baghpat is a clash that should be accurately recorded by this country’s historians for the generations to come.
