Today was an extraordinary morning. Fiona, my Welsh co-worker, and I visited the village in Haryana which she lived in some 33 years ago. These startling azure blue doors are emblematic of the area around Dhauj. |
A local villager standing proud over the entrance to the school house. In 1982, Fiona and her family shared living quarters in the same building. |
The peeling paint cannot hide the proud arches. A child plays amongst the collonnade. |
Fiona posing with a photo which she had taken back in 1990 with her then 8-year-old daughter Liza outside the apartment she used to live in. |
Fiona's photo with Liza reproduced above. |
Wonderful detailing on a door frame at the entrance to the building. |
Beauty in simplicity. |
Magnificent wooden carving on a doorframe |
Expert craftsmanship, one that has withstood time. |
The doorway: another piece of remarkable artisanship. |
This local man kept regaling the attendant bunch of children with stories of Fiona and him in their youth. But now, he lamented, both of them have "grown old"! |
Our visit interrupted the work of the women, calling for a much needed break in the noon sun. The respite was brief: Fiona and I left after taking several pictures, both of us energised by our little adventure. |
