Will you pay 27k for a night of no sleep at this Zero Star hotel in Switzerland?

Swiss hotel 'Null Stern Hotel' or 'Zero Star Hotel' wants its guests to have no privacy and no sleep. The hotel that has opened up for reservations for a whopping Rs 27k/ night offers no comfort or luxury.

What comes to your mind when someone says Switzerland?

Perhaps, you think of a beautiful landscape with the Swiss Alps as your background, paragliding amidst the valleys and glistening streams, breathing in the pure alpine air and staying at the most luxurious resorts.

When booking hotels, most tourists would want experiences where they are pampered, where they can have a relaxing stay and are constantly surrounded by beautiful views from their room windows. However, there is one hotel that deliberately wants its guests to be uncomfortable throughout their stay. And they don’t just offer an uncomfortable stay at a dirt-cheap price, it’s a whopping Rs 27,000 or 325 Swiss Francs.

Introducing Null Stern Hotel or the Zero Star Hotel, when translated literally from German. The tagline of this hotel says: “The only star is you.”

It is a bad review for hoteliers when their guests complain of not being able to sleep, not getting enough privacy etc. But for Null Stern Hotel, it is exactly what the designers want.

The concept of Null Stern Hotel: The hotel is an art installation by the Riklin brothers in collaboration with hotelier Daniel Charbonnier. The twin brothers Frank and Patrik Riklin are famous Swiss concept artists.

The brothers want guests at the Null Stern Hotel to not sleep but ponder about the problems of the world during their stay. The stay is nothing but a double-bed perched on a wooden platform with two bedside tables and lamps. The room also does not have any walls – no roof, no privacy, nothing. Before you hyperventilate about the arrangement, the good thing is that it comes with a private butler.

They are offering four different suites in different setups, three of which are in 'idyllic' sites, and one is in a 'non-idyllic' site:

  1. One suite is situated on top of a hill near the 13th-century Bayart Tower.
  2. The other suite is located on the mystical hill called “Colline Ardente” in the smallest registered vineyard in the world with only three vines.
  3. And another suite is located in a valley between two vineyards and on a small road. The hoteliers say it is located as if it was “deliberately dropped from the sky”.
  4. The fourth suite is in the 'non-idyllic' site and right next to a roadside at a petrol pump.

Imagine sleeping on a bed in the middle of a fully functional petrol pump! Yes, you will be up all night looking at strangers giving you curious looks and all that noise and smell. In a way, for those who like the smell of petrol, it might not be so bothersome after all.

Reservations: The suites are not available infinitely. They are only available from July 1 to September 18, 2022. The reservations have opened up already.

'Sleep is not the point. What's important is reflecting about the current world situation. Staying here is a statement about the need for urgent changes in society,' Reuters quoted Frank Riklin as saying.

Where: The suites are located in Saillon, a village in southern Swiss canton of Valais.

Price: You will be paying Rs 27k for one night of stay.

So, are you ready to ponder about the world in a suite with au naturel background?
