Eight weeks after the previous closure on September 30, the embassy faced challenges, including the non-extension of visas for diplomats, and unclear communication from the Indian government, as stated in the release.
The embassy, situated in Chanakyapuri, experienced pressure from both the Taliban and the Indian government, leading to a critical juncture.
Despite India's significant role as a strategic partner since 2001, the closure was deemed necessary, according to the statement.
The embassy has been officially handed over to the Indian government, leaving decisions about the future of the mission, including the potential involvement of Taliban "diplomats," in the hands of Indian authorities.
The release clarified that the closure was not a result of internal conflict or diplomats shifting allegiance to the Taliban. Instead, it was attributed to broader changes in policy and interests.
Expressing gratitude to the Afghan community in India, the embassy said despite "limitations in resources and power" it worked tirelessly for the betterment of the Afghans.
