Controversial ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson takes his show to Twitter

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who was fired from the network under controversial circumstances, has announced his intention to relaunch his show on Twitter.

The decision comes after Carlson's departure from Fox News, which was preceded by a massive defamation lawsuit settlement of $787.5 million against the network's parent company, Fox Corp. Known for his insidious right-wing narrative, the former host presented Tucker Carlson Tonight, a prime-time show that boasted high ratings among the 25-to-54 age demographic on Fox News.

Carlson's departure from Fox News resulted in a decline in ratings for the network, and now he is attempting to regain his audience through Twitter. In a video posted on the social media platform, Carlson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to bring his show to Twitter and claimed that it is a space where national conversations incubate and develop.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk didn't shy away from supporting Carlson. He retweeted Carlson's video and emphasized on the platform's interactive nature and commitment to diverse viewpoints. Musk, who has referred to himself as a "free speech absolutist," clarified that no formal deal had been signed with Carlson and that he would be subject to the same rules as other content creators on Twitter.

He mentioned the potential for subscription and advertising revenue sharing, but also acknowledged that the necessary software for this arrangement was still being developed. Musk also expressed his desire for more content creators, including those from the left, to join Twitter.

In a move that raises questions about his motives and intentions, Carlson's lawyers reportedly sent a letter to Fox accusing the network of fraud and breach of contract. However, neither Carlson's attorney nor a spokesperson for Fox Corp commented on the matter. The announcement of Carlson's departure from Fox News in April was brief, leaving many wondering about the circumstances surrounding his exit.

While Carlson had a substantial viewership and wielded significant influence in conservative circles, his show often faced criticism for promoting bigoted and divisive narratives. His departure from Fox News marked a significant change for the network and its viewership. Now, by choosing Twitter as his platform of choice, Carlson is attempting to reinvent himself and regain the noteriety he once commanded.

This decision to relaunch his show on Twitter highlights the increasing significance of social media platforms in the realm of news and commentary, while also raising concerns about the potential for further polarization and the spread of misinformation in online spaces. Only time will tell how successful Carlson's show will be on Twitter and whether other prominent industry figures will follow suit.
