Days after Noida Gardens Galleria bar fight, a clash over selfies at a New Year bash in Gaur City

Noida is often stereotyped as a city of drunken brawls and violent behaviour. In a matter of two days with two blurry videos, the city seems to have stood by its reputation. While the first one captured a bar fight at Sutra Gastropub in Gardens Galleria just last week, the more recent fight was reported at Gaur City's First Avenue in Noida around 11.30 pm on December 31. 

What led to the fight? A trio of men was alleged to have clicked photographs of two women residents of the society without their consent. As a New Year’s celebration in the society was in progress, a clash began between the husbands of these women and the accused.

Two of these men were pulled out and thrashed by the husbands. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the residents and security guards were also injured in the altercation. Other society members captured a few seconds of the fight on video. 

How did the police get involved? Even though none of the sides filed an official police complaint, it is highly likely that the police got alerted due to the videos going viral since last Saturday. 

According to PTI, the trio has been identified as Bharat Singh (40), Jai Singh (32) and Kuldeep (35). Bharat Singh also happens to be a Delhi Police constable. Despite no complaints filed, Bisrakh police station in-charge Anil Kumar Rajput claims that they were arrested under Section 151 (arrest to prevent a cognisable offence without orders from magistrate). 

As an investigation is still underway and four injured have been admitted to a hospital, the accused are claiming that they were just clicking their own selfies and the women just happened to be in the background. 

Meanwhile, what happened at Gardens Galleria? The drunken brawl at Gardens Galleria’s Sutra pub was similar in the sense that it involved two clashing groups and police action followed despite no official complaint. 

As of now, the police have been checking the club’s CCTV footage and further action is awaited.
