Delhi Police will reportedly conduct a polygraph test on Aftab Amin Poonawalla before he undergoes the narco-analysis test. Aftab is accused of murdering and dismembering his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar. Earlier, it was reported that the narco-analysis test would be conducted on November 21.

The narco-analysis process: Before a narco test can be conducted on Aftab, he needs to undergo a polygraph test. The polygraph test needs to be approved by court.

  • The subject is given a dose of Sodium Pentothal based on the weight, which is supposed to put the subject into sleep mode.
  • With this, the subject is expected to lose the ability to fabricate facts.
  • A team of forensic specialists, police officers and a court official will hold the examination for 30-90 minutes.
  • The subject needs to be mentally and physically fit to undergo the narco test.

More chilling details about the murder:

  • Delhi Police has reportedly found parts of a human skull and jawbone from Mehrauli forest suspected to belong to Walkar. Police are also draining nearby Maidan Garhi pond of water as they suspect Aftab may have dumped Shraddha's severed head in the water body.
  • So far, the police have sent all the body parts recovered from Mehrauli forest area for DNA testing.
  • In Mumbai, the police are looking for four women from Vasai, who Aftab reportedly dated before meeting Walkar.
  • There are also speculations that the case could be handed over to the CBI.
  • The police also spoke to the owner of a moving company that shipped Aftab's belongings from Mumbai to Delhi. However, the owner says he never met Aftab in person as the transaction was completed all online.
The entire process was handled by my employees after we received full payment from the client. That is how it works. Except for those who pick up and deliver shipments, we hardly ever get to meet our clients in person since the entire transaction is done online.

  • The police have recorded statements of over eight people, who knew Aftab and Shraddha.
  • The Delhi Police team in Mumbai spoke to Abdulla Khan of Unique Park Society, where Aftab's family used to live.
  • Aftab's family remains untraceable still. They are said to have moved from the society just 20 days before the murder came to light. The family was living in the same place for the last 20 years.

  • Police also spoke to Jayashree, the landlord of the flat at Regal Apartments, where Aftab and Shraddha lived as tenants in 2020.
  • Aftab and Shraddha reportedly lived as a married couple at the apartment.
  • Police suspect Aftab used a hack saw to chop Shraddha's body and hammer and nails to break her joints.
  • The police have not recovered the weapons used in the murder. They are searching Aftab's Chhatarpur apartment for the same.
  • The police spoke to the owner of a hardware store near the Chhatarpur apartment from where Aftab reportedly bought the murder weapons, but the owner said he's unable to recall Aftab as he was not a regular.
  • A local pharmacy in Chhatarpur reportedly told the police that Aftab had come to buy requirements with Shraddha and later he used to come alone. He also bought condoms on various occasions, leading police to believe that he was dating other women after Shraddha's murder.

Recap: 26-year-old Shraddha Walkar's grisly murder by her live-in partner Aftab Amin Poonawalla has spooked India out. Shraddha and Aftab's story is of a toxic relationship and unsupportive environment that ended in murder.

The couple met in 2019 on the dating app Bumble and soon began living together against the wishes of Shraddha's family. Soon after moving in, Shraddha saw the abusive side of Aftab and confided the same into her mother and later to several of her other friends and even her estranged father.

After her mother's death in 2020, she lost all contact with her father, Vikas Walkar, whose missing complaint in August kicked off the search for Shraddha. Shraddha's friends have since narrated the various incidents of abuse and shared screenshots of text messages detail the events.

Shraddha reportedly wanted to leave Aftab due to the abuse. She once even lodged a verbal complaint at a local police station and was also hospitalised for various injuries. However, she was unable to leave the vicious cycle of abuse and reconciliation, with Aftab threatening to commit suicide.

Earlier this year, Shraddha decided to give the relationship another shot by moving from Mumbai. The couple spent a few months in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand before renting a flat in Delhi's Chhatarpur. Less than 3 days after moving into the Chhatarpur apartment, Shraddha was strangled to death by Aftab on May 18.

It's unknown whether he planned the murder or if it was done in the heat of the moment. But after her murder, he went on to chop her body to 35 pieces and scatter them across Mehrauli forest.

The police are finding it difficult to find evidence against Aftab, other than his confession to the police, given that nearly 6 months passed without the heinous crime coming to notice.
