Elections in MP, Rajasthan, and Telangana to be held from November 7, results on December 3

In the lead-up to the 2024 General Election, the Election Commission declared the poll schedule for upcoming state legislature elections in Rajasthan, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and Madhya Pradesh on Monday, October 10.

In a press briefing presided over by Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, the election schedule was announced.

The schedule

  1. Polling for the Mizoram assembly elections will take place on November 7, 2023, in a single phase.
  2. Chhattisgarh will vote in two phases, on November 7 and November 17, 2023.
  3. Polls for the Madhya Pradesh assembly will also be on November 17, 2023.
  4. Rajasthan will go to the polls on November 23, 2023.
  5. Voters in Telangana will cast their votes on November 30, 2023.

The counting of votes for all the votes cast in these five states will take place on December 3, 2023.

When do the assemblies' tenures end?

  • In the heartland, the Congress-led assembly in Chhattisgarh with 90 seats is set to end its term on January 3, 2024, whereas the BJP is in power in the 230-seat Madhya Pradesh assembly, which is set to end on January 8, 2024.

  • The Rajasthan assembly with 200 seats will end its tenure on January 14, 2024, and the Telangana assembly with 119 seats will end its term on January 18, 2024.

  • The northeastern state with 40 assembly seats is set to end its term on December 17, 2023, where the Mizo National Front is currently in power.

Other notable points

  • The assembly polls in Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, MP, and Telangana will involve 8.2 crore male and 7.8 crore female voters deciding the fate of their governance for the next five years.

  • A total of 60.2 lakh first-time voters will be eligible to cast their votes, said Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India.

  • The Election Commission will place special focus on making electoral rolls inclusive and will concentrate on roll-to-poll conversion.
